With March sneaking up on the calendar, other book lovers in our country have decided to put together a little March Book Madness event. Think of this as the Big Dance for book lovers. If your child is a book lover and would like to participate they have until Tuesday, 2/24 to vote on which books they would like to see invited to the tournament! Participants can follow the shamrock link on the QAE Library webpage. Or they can go directly to the March Book Madness site to vote. There is also a picture book bracket and a YA (Young Adult) bracket if you have children that would like to participate in those as well.
Once the books are seeded, we will make a copy of the tournament on one of the bulletin boards in the QAE lunchroom.
The ultimate excitement for any book lover is to meet an author. This fall we were lucky enough to have Kazu Kibuishi spend some time with our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. To bring the March Book Madness alive to QAE we are so excited to have author and illustrator Carson Ellis visit with our 1st and 2nd grade student on March 5th. Ms. Ellis is based out of Portland and has illustrated numerous books such as:
- The Wildwood Trilogy authored by Colin Meloy
- The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
- The Composer is Dead by Lemony Snicket
- The Beautiful Stories of Life by Cynthia Rylant
- Stagecoach Sal by Deborah Hopkinson
- Dillweed's Revenge by Florence Parry Heide
This time she comes to us as the author and illustrator of her book Home. Your child can pick up an order form for this book from the QAE library or you can download the form here. Orders can be returned to the QAE library or placed in my mailbox in the office. Order forms are due February 27th.
Oh, and if you have a favorite book that you'd love to share, swing by my office any time! Recommendations are always welcome.
Happy Reading!
